Friday Finds For Homeschool

This week’s free homeschool resources include: Dance Mat Typing, NASA’s Be A Martian, Martin Luther King, Jr Printables, free online book reading, and Math Worksheet Wizard.

Dance Mat Typing

Oh My!!! This is SO much fun! I was personally playing on this site for quite awhile.  😉   It is actually much better than several of the typing programs that I have paid good money for over the years. As far as I can tell so far, there isn’t a way to tell how fast you are typing or your accuracy, but as far as a child actually wanting to practice typing and building confidence… this one tops the charts, in my opinion. When you make a mistake, the little animal cheerfully points out the correct key by basically saying something like, I’m over here. It is interactive and does not require any registration or downloading. Check out BBC’s Dance Mat Typing here.

NASA’s Be A Martian

Be A Martian: Age of Virtual Exploration and the Human-Robotic Partnership aligns with technology-education standards. Although it says that it is still in development, it already has a lot of wonderful resources. You can either explore with an “Anonymous Tourist Visa” or become a “Martian Citizen”. Check it out here.

Martin Luther King, Jr Printables

With Martin Luther King, Jr Day just around the corner, I wanted to include a link to some free printables you all could surely use. Here is are great link that includes pdf files that can be used with the youngest kiddos up to at least upper elementary. Items included are: Learn to Draw MLK, Martin Luther King Booklet, Martin Luther King Poster, Martin Luther King Notebooking Page, I Have a Dream Quote Bubble, Martin Luther King Writing Page, MLK Large Quote Poster, MLK Quotes Poster, MLK Bookmarks, Martin Luther King Cloze, different decorated writing papers, dove template, and a writing frame. Get all of them here.

Reading Brain @ Funbrain

You can easily spend DAYS on this site! You can currently read online versions of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”, “Clueless McGee Gets Famous!”, “Tess’s Tree”, “Skullduggery Island”, and “Galactic Hot Dogs”. Games include: Grammar Gorillas, Rooting Out Words, The Plural Girls, Stay Afloat, and Word Confusion. There are also comics, Mad Lib Jr, and Funbrain Jr Books to enjoy. Check it out here!

Math Worksheet Wizard

There is no registration needed for this website, which makes it quick and easy. You just pick the type of worksheet and print. The worksheets are randomly generated, so each time that you create a particular worksheet, you get different problems. This site is great for homeschoolers and classroom teachers alike and currently has worksheets for kindergarten through 5th grade. Check out the Math Worksheet Wizard here.

I love it when I find great resources for homeschooling online and get to share them with my friends. I often find wonderful free or inexpensive resources that can help homeschooling families spend less money and quite easily have a strong homeschool learning experience. Please note that these finds are not created by me personally unless stated otherwise. My desire for this series of posts is to share, support, and publicize some wonderful free and/or inexpensive resources that I feel more people should know about. The opinions I give are completely my own. I am not to be held responsible for any problems with the resources, broken links, etc. However, if you do let me know of any problems, I can fix the link or remove the recommendation, when necessary. Also, please note that some of these offers may only be for a limited time regardless if it is stated by me or the related site, so act quickly. Enjoy!
